Grazie all’iniziativa AUSDA, anche le scuole italiane potranno partecipare alla seconda edizione, quella 2019, dell’Australian Antarctic Festival, un evento biennale organizzato dalla Mawson’s Huts Foundation a Hobart (Australia) per celebrare e far incontrare tour operator, scienziati e istituzioni scientifiche che lavorano in Antartide.
Tra le attività previste vi è quella dedicata alle scuole dei paesi aderenti al Trattato Antartico, il Penguin Project. Le scuole che hanno aderito all’iniziativa sono state chiamate a realizzare un percorso didattico multidisciplinare sui temi legati all’Antartide e ad elaborare i concetti appresi partecipando alla realizzazione di un’area espositiva allestita ad Hobart in cui saranno mostrate le sagome di cartone degli oltre 8000 pinguini di Adelie colorati e inviati dagli studenti di tutto il mondo.
L’Unità Tecnica Antartide dell’ENEA ha invitato a partecipare oltre 1000 alunni di 11 scuole primarie di primo grado. Ogni scuola ha ricevuto 50 pinguini di cartone che i giovani studenti hanno dipinto a loro piacere. I lavori saranno inviati a Hobart, dove saranno esposti nel corso del Festival insieme alle altre migliaia di pinguini provenienti da scuole di tutto il Mondo.
