3 aprile 2025 – Per festeggiare i 20 anni di attività della stazione italo-francese Concordia in Antartide, presso l’ASI di Roma si terrà il workshop “20 years of Concordia research”, organizzato dall’ESA in collaborazione con il Programma Nazionale di Ricerche in Antartide (PNRA) e l’Institut Polaire Français Paul-Émile Victor (IPEV).
L’evento è organizzato nell’ambito di una iniziativa più ampia“Isolation/confinement studies for human space exploration”, organizzata da ASI in collaborazione con la Marina Militare e l’Agenzia Spaziale Europea (ESA), che dal 31 marzo al 3 aprile 2025 ospita alcuni workshop per esplorare l’heritage esistente a livello europeo e lo stato dell’arte della ricerca relativa all’isolamento prolungato, il confinamento in ambienti estremi e l’impatto psicologico di vivere lontano dalla Terra.
La Stazione Concordia situata sul plateau antartico, a 3.233 m di altitudine e 1200 km dalla costa, completamente isolata durante l’inverno per oltre nove mesi, con temperature che durante l’inverno antartico possono scendere sotto i -80°C, presenta profonde analogie con l’ambiente spaziale in particolar modo durante la notte polare. Per questo motivo i WInterover, il gruppo di 13 ricercatori e tecnici italiani e francesi che affrontano in completo isolamento l’inverno antartico per mantenere operativa la stazione e per portare avanti le attività di ricerca in corso, partecipano ad importanti studi internazionali sull’adattamento psico-fisico dell’uomo all’ipossia, all’isolamento e all’assenza di luce naturale.
Durante il workshop “20 years of Concordia research” saranno presentati i risultati ottenuti nei due decenni di studi effettuati presso la Stazione, soprattutto sugli effetti psicosociali e fisiologici dell’isolamento, le contromisure sanitarie e le interazioni tra ambiente e microbioma umano. Ma sarà anche l’occasione per esplorare ed aprire nuove opportunità per future ricerche e collaborazioni.
