Con la partenza dal porto di Lyttleton in Nuova Zelanda, il 5 gennaio 2023 è iniziata la missione della NR italiana Laura Bassi prevista durante la 38a campagna antartica del PNRA, il programma Nazionale di Ricerche in Antartide finanziato dal Ministero dell’Università e Ricerca (MUR) e gestito dall’ENEA (l’Agenzia nazionale per le nuove tecnologie, l’energia e lo sviluppo economico sostenibile) per la pianificazione logistica e dal CNR (il Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche) per la programmazione scientifica.
La Laura Bassi, di proprietà dell’OGS (l’Istituto Nazionale di Oceanografia e di Geofisica Sperimentale), navigherà per due mesi nel Mare di Ross, portando avanti due campagne di ricerca oceanografica, nell’ambito di 8 progetti del PNRA oltre alle attività che saranno svolte in collaborazione con l’Istituto Idrografico della Marina Militare.
Il viaggio della NR Laura Bassi è iniziato lo scorso 17 novembre quando ha lasciato Trieste per raggiungere il porto di Ravenna e da qui, dopo aver caricato personale e materiali, ha intrapreso una navigazione di circa 40 giorni per arrivare a fine dicembre al porto di Littletoin Nuova Zelanda. La nave farà 2 volte tappa presso la stazione Mario Zucchelli per scaricare materiale e per consentire l’avvicendamnto del personale a bordo.
La campagna 2022-2023 vedrà infatti impegnati sulla Laura Bassi 28 tra ricercatrici e ricercatori che si alterneranno per portare avanti le attività di ricerca previste.
