Le condizioni di mare, straordinariamente libero dai ghiacci che quasi sempre lo ricoprono, hanno consentito di effettuare una profilatura CTD e attività di pesca scientifica a ridosso del Ross Ice SHelf – RIS che in questa posizione è particolarmente basso (circa 8 metri di altezza). I primi risultati dei parametri fisici dell’acqua di mare, dalla superficie fino alla profondità prossima al fondale di 216m, hanno evidenziato la presenza di acqua particolarmente fredda e si confermano di grande importanza per lo studio della dinamica delle correnti nel Mare di Ross.
