XXII, XXIII e XXIV spedizione (2006-2009) – In questi anni il finanziamento del PNRA subisce una progressiva riduzione e le dimensioni delle spedizioni si contraggono inevitabilmente. Si passa da 139 partecipanti a 105 e infine a 88. Allo stesso modo i giorni di apertura di MZS si riducono da 110 a 96 e infine a 64. Il rapporto tra ricercatori e addetti alla logistica si riduce, non potendo la logistica scendere al di sotto di una soglia minima. La nave è adibita essenzialmente al trasporto di materiali e personale, limitando le attività oceanografiche alla manutenzione dei “moorings” (strumentazione di misura ancorata al fondale) e al lancio di boe con trasmettitori di dati. Essa non viene noleggiata, quindi non è presente nella 24° spedizione.
Le attività a Concordia e le trivellazioni previste dal Progetto Andrill nella zona di McMurdo, vincolate da accordi di cooperazione internazionale, proseguono, invece, senza subire riduzioni importanti.
Quattro nazioni partecipano al progetto Andrill (Stati Uniti, Nuova Zelanda, Germania e Italia), per eseguire due campionamenti profondi del fondale marino, partendo in un caso dalla piattaforma di ghiaccio e nell’altro dal ghiaccio marino. L’intera operazione, dal costo di circa 20 milioni di euro, si completa sostanzialmente nell’arco della 22a e 23a spedizione.
Tra le ridotte attività scientifiche vanno menzionate quelle relative agli osservatori geofisici e l’installazione di due nuove stazioni GPS per lo studio dei lenti movimenti crostali.
Durante la 22a spedizione, la stazione Concordia è stata oggetto di una ispezione da parte di rappresentanti del Trattato Antartico ,e durante la 24a spedizione, viene visitata da una delegazione del Principato di Monaco.
Sul molo di MZS, che nella 23a spedizione era stato riparato per i danni di una mareggiata, viene installata una gru per lo scarico e il carico delle merci e l’alaggio dei natanti, uno dei quali (Malippo) pesa circa 27 tonnellate.
XXV spedizione (2009-2010) La Stazione MZS è stata aperta come di consueto con l’appoggio del Programma USA, a inizio di novembre. E’ stato possibile ridurre il costo della nave Italica utilizzandola insieme alla spedizione tedesca dell’Istituto BGR (Hannover).
La nave Italica ha ripristinato, con 1600 metri cubi, le scorte di carburante a MZS.
Un aereo leggero ha eseguito i vari collegamenti tra MZS e la Stazione Concordia, consentendo il rientro delle 12 persone che vi hanno trascorso l’inverno 2009 e l’invio del nuovo gruppo per l’inverno 2010.
Nel 2010 il Consorzio PNRA ha cessato il suo compito.
Il finanziamento annuale del programma è risalito a 18 milioni di euro, permettendo l’organizzazione di una missione regolare.
XXVI spedizione (2010-2011) Missione regolare: partono 149 partecipanti.
La stazione Mario Zucchelli rimane aperta per 103 giorni, e, per l’attività estiva, la stazione Concordia resta aperta 83 giorni. E’ iniziata una collaborazione con l’Ente antartico sud-coreano, che costruirà la stazione scientifica Jang Bogo nelle vicinanze di MZS.
I membri della spedizione italiana, anche quest’anno priva del supporto navale, sono rientrati in Nuova Zelanda a bordo della rompighiaccio Araon. La nave francese Astrolabe, ha subito la rottura di un’elica e questo ha comportato la riduzione da tre a due dei viaggi di rifornimento via terra di Concordia.
Sono stati raccolti 117 meteoriti.
XXVII spedizione (2011-2012) Spedizione con alto numero di partecipanti, 186, e lunga durata. A MZS sono stati riparati i danni causati da una stagione invernale particolarmente severa.
Vi sono stati ritardi nei finanziamenti e, quindi, nella stipula dei contratti, con conseguenze su alcuni programmi scientifici, in particolare di biologia, legati alla stagionalità.

Nell’ambito di una collaborazione internazionale, e grazie del Progetto GV7, in un campo remoto a 500 km da MZS e 1900 m di altezza, sono stati prelevati campioni superficiali di neve e ghiaccio, per studiare il clima degli ultimi 2000 anni.
